Snapshot #125 | 10 Things for 21 April 2019

Personal

Happy Easter–or Passover–if you celebrate! If you don’t celebrate either, Happy Cheap-Chocolate-Day Eve!

Currently…

1. finishing… the third(!!) draft of The Black Sun!
2. trying… the iOS version of Scrivener. So far, so good, though it does make it a little difficult to walk away from the story. (It gets weirdly tempting to edit scenes when the cat wakes me up at four o’clock in the morning. Not that she did that twice in the past two weeks or anything.)
3. getting… my tickets for Endgame. (And making sure I’ve got waterproof mascara on hand, because I have a feeling I’m gonna need it.)
4. figuring… out a way to organize Evernote that might actually work for me. Finally.
5. looking… forward to the Veronica Mars revival. Now I just need to figure out how I can watch it in Canada.
6. wondering… why all my library holds suddenly become available at the same time every time. It’s hard to keep up.
7. finding… everything I need for my first big sewing project of the year, and I’m so excited to get started.
8. buying… a new jacket. I wasn’t planning on it, and I’m not happy about the unexpected expense, but my old one finally gave up the ghost and it’s not warm enough for my denim jacket just yet. (At least it was on sale?)
9. making… hot cross buns. I’ve mostly got the recipe down–they taste amazing–but they’re still not very pretty. (Does anyone have advice for working with brioche-style dough? It seems to have a mind of its own, and I can’t convince it to stay in nice round buns.)
10. trying… to remember the difference between em-dashes and en-dashes. I never know which one to use.

Personal

I’m still on a bit of a hiatus for the holidays. Happy New Year, and I’ll be back full-time next week.

Currently…

1. eating… all the food.
2. indulging… in nostalgia. (I’ve been playing Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the first time since I was… thirteen? Fifteen? Somewhere around there. However long it’s been, the muscle memory is still strong.)
3. figuring… out how to fix the one issue with The Black Sun that was still nagging at me. It’ll involve shuffling some scenes around and adding some stuff, but it’s going to be so good.
4. making… all the plans. I am so ready to get back to work.
5. feeling… annoyed. My favourite camera store is closing at the end of January. They’ve got another location, but it’s a 40-minute bus ride away, so that won’t be happening very often.
6. craving… a site redesign. It might be time… or it might just be that I’m really feeling the whole new year thing and kind of want to change everything. (Or at least refresh the current design.)
7. accepting… that no ‘real’ work is going to get done before the 7th. (Despite #4 above.)
8. trying… to catch up on the podcast backlog.
9. looking… forward to packing everything away and vacuuming up the glitter. As much as I love Christmas—and this year was kind of amazing—I can only handle the trappings of it for so long.
10. taking… advantage of Boxing Day sales. (In my defence, it was online—so I wasn’t actually braving the crowds—and it was spending gift cards on books. So I feel no guilt.)

Snapshot #86 | 10 Things for 24 September 2017

Personal

Currently…

1. realizing… that I really need to organize my notes in Evernote. It’s kind of a mess right now.
2. finishing… the edits on all the photos I took in August.
3. thinking… about the next painting. I have ideas. I’m going to have to do a few experiments.
4. reaching… 5K in my (no-longer-C25K) running plan! Of course, on the run that immediately followed that one, I managed to do something to my ankle, but… whatever. It’s a setback, but nothing I can’t handle.
5. discovering… a local grocery delivery service! I’ve wanted one for ages. (Putting the link here so I remember it in the future.)
6. learning… that the cat that’s always hanging around the parking lot seems to have people. Which means I’m not going to attempt a rescue mission, because I don’t want to steal someone’s cat.
7. looking… for the perfect shimmery/metallic grey nail polish. (I don’t want silver, or glitter, and I’ve got five or six different shades of black. But I really want something in the pewter-gunmetal range.)
8. studying… character development in preparation for NaNoWriMo. (And generally starting to get serious about my NaNo plans.)
9. starting… to think ahead to fall. (Fall-that-feels-like-fall, not this late-summer thing we’ve got going right now.) I want to start baking again, and wearing scarves, and… yeah.
10. cleaning… up the archives. I think I’m just about finished the new design. I’ve still got a few little details to take care of (obviously), but… I’m getting there.

Snapshot #63 | 10 Things for 6 November 2016

Personal

Currently…

1. trying… to survive NaNoWriMo. It’s… interesting. Not quite sure how I feel about my progress. (Of course, as I type this, I’m taking a quick break from my daily writing, and it’s not going great. Which is why I’m feeling ambivalent.)
2. working… on that whole 52-week photo project. Still. I promise. I’m just trying to catch up on some other things, too, and haven’t been able to post my progress.
3. daydreaming… about travel. Always.
4. wishing… that the boots I fell in love with actually fit properly.
5. baking… cookies and cupcakes, because Hallowe’en. ♥
6. feeling… sleepy.
7. making… to-do lists. So many lists.
8. figuring… out my work process and creative routines. It’s been a bit of a struggle—and I haven’t always been successful—but it’s starting to fall into place.
9. buying… more new workout gear. Still feeling like a sci-fi ninja.
10. hoping… that the weather starts cooperating soon.

Snapshot #32 | 10 Things for 30 August 2015

Personal

Currently…

1. thinking… about font choices. Exciting, I know.
2. watching… an X-ray tech, an orderly and a cop all get distracted by the movie playing in the hospital waiting room. (Mostly, I loved that each one of them did a double-take as they passed, then stopped to watch the movie. Then realized what they were doing and carried on. And that the movie was Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, of all things.) (Everyone’s basically fine, btw. Wasn’t at the hospital for anything serious.)
3. seeing… progress
4. finding… the absolute perfect sweater dress for fall. And winter. And basically every day once the temperature starts to drop.
5. waiting… for things that never happen. Frustrating.
6. getting… way too invested in the day-to-day life of the spider that lives just outside my window.
7. playing… with new toys. Camera-related toys, so you know I’m having fun.
8. hating… the humidity.
9. starting… to think about my Christmas baking. Already. (Note: I’m not planning it yet. But I’m getting ready to start planning it.)
10. wondering… why wallets designed for women are so freakin’ huge. It’s annoying.

Snapshot #17 | 10 Things for 19 January 2015

Personal

Sorry I’m late with this! I had most of it written by Friday, but actually finishing it slipped my mind until this morning.

Currently…

1. remembering… that I still haven’t finished this post. (eep!)
2. wishing… that the Fitbit dashboard let you edit stairs climbed. The data is useless as long as it interprets ‘approaching storm’ as ’18 flights climbed before breakfast.’
3. looking… at new workout options. I’m going to try something new every week (starting this week) until I find one that works for me.
4. trying… to fix an uncooperative backup drive. Glamorous, I know.
5. thinking… about how much I adore coffee. I woke up to no power on Friday morning, and, thus, no coffee. I missed it terribly, less for the caffeine, and more for the ritual.
6. feeling… indecisive.
7. realizing… that I’ve finally started spelling ‘caffeine’ right on the first try. Now to master ‘manoeuvre’. (Autocorrect had to help with that one.)
8. wondering… how you’re supposed to choose which pillows to buy. It feels like one of those grown-up things that no one ever explained to me.
9. getting… things in order.
10. starting… to think that my plans are actually going to come together. (Yay!)
