The New Place

I have to be honest with you guys: I genuinely love moving to a new place.

I mean, not the actual hauling boxes and wrestling furniture up stairs bits (and those parts were particularly brutal this time around; you should see my bruises) but the rest of it—packing, finding excuses to throw five years of accumulated stuff away, living out of boxes while I figure out how to make everything work in the new space… I love the whole process. Whenever I hear people complaining about how much they hate moving, I just don’t get it. It’s a blank slate, a reason to re-evaluate my routines, and a new puzzle to be solved.

There are very few things that make me happier.

(The only thing I don’t love is that one of my new neighbours seems to have a grandfather clock that’s exactly two minutes slow. It would bother me less if it chimed precisely on the hour. Other than that, the new place is beautifully quiet.)

In other words, I’m back.

I won’t be posting regularly just yet—the photo up top shows you the condition of my office right now—but as I settle in, I’m going to be getting back into the swing of things around here, including making a few changes that should make the site easier to navigate.

Because, as it turns out, carrying dozens of boxes up and down three flights of stairs gives a girl plenty of time to come up with ideas for her blog.
